What are my options for sourcing organic baby food?

When it comes to organic baby food, you have several options to source your little ones food. Below we'll take a look at these different options, which may help you figure out which option is best suited to you and your family.

Option 1 -  Farmers food markets...

There are several places in Dublin to source fresh organic food. For example Temple Bar's Farmers Market, Dalkey Irish Market and Fallon and Byrnes market are all very reputable organic food markets located centrally and close to the city.

One of the benefits of going to the markets is that you will find the freshest seasonal foods all year round. If you know what foods you need for your recipes, you can create very tasty nutritional meals for your little one.  I'd recommend a book called the 'Organic Food Shoppers Guide' to help you when it comes to knowing which foods to buy.

The con's of shopping at the food markets is that they are only open on Saturdays, which often means you end up having to run to the supermarket throughout the week to source other foods which have perished or foods which you forgot to buy, which can sometimes be inconvenient.

Option 2 -  Buy supermarket labelled organic food...

When it comes to sourcing your baby's food at the supermarket, one of the pro's is that this option can be more convenient than having to go to the food markets on a Saturday. Another plus is that the way the foods are packaged in small jars and packets, this means you easily throw them into your bag or where-ever you may be travelling to.

One of the major cons is that sometimes there are preservatives mixed in with the supermarket organic baby foods to help keep them fresh for longer, which means your baby does not get to taste the real freshness of the food. Another con here is that that you cannot tailor the meals to suit your requirements, nor to what your family may like to eat. You also can't be sure that organic/seasonal ingredients are used, sometimes marketers try to lead you to believe the products are 100% organic when they are not!

Option 3 -  Hiring a chef..

Hiring a chef to come to your home twice weekly to cook your baby's organic meals is another option out there. The positives here are that the chef will take care of the meal plans, the sourcing of the food, the cooking and cleaning up! You can also have them batch cook for the days they are not at your home so that you have the food ready for the week.

One major con here is that chef's can be very expensive. It can also be quite difficult to source chef's to come to your home for only two day's a week. Also, some people do not like to bring strangers into there home, or have to be tied to a particular time to let people in.

Option 4 -  Organic baby food delivery...

Now days, this option seems to becoming more and more popular, particularly for our many working mothers in today's millennium age! Companies realize that it can be difficult for parents to research organic recipes, understand where best to buy the food, how to cook, portion size and clean! There are a few organic baby food delivery companies out there now who remove all of these stressful jobs, giving you time back to focus on other things.

You'll be given confidence in knowing your baby is receiving the highest quality of organic food. Reason being, such companies have their expert nutritional consultants agree your baby's organic food plans with you, tailoring them to suit your family food likes and requirements. These companies are also reasonably priced for the level of service they provide.
